Koblenz is not a very well known vacuum cleaner manufacturer in the United States, but worldwide the word Koblenz in synonymous with quality floor equipment. Koblenz first production line vacuum cleaner was introduced in the 1960's. With over forty years experience in the floor equipment market Koblenz now produces some of the best vacuum cleaners available at an unbeatable price. The Koblenz U-800 vacuum cleaner is an excellent piece of machinery engineered on a great foundation. The Koblenz U-800 vacuum is commercial in nature, but residential in price. In the today's vacuum cleaner market it's tough to find a vacuum with so many positive aspects for under three hundred dollars.
The U-800 has a modern appearance and is composed of ABS plastics. The refuse tank is rectangular in design with a large, easy to use carrying handle situated on the front, top edge of the vacuum. Even at nineteen pounds the handle makes lifting and carrying the vacuum cleaner easy. The handle is composed of chrome metal making it stronger than other brands such as Hoover. The handle is easy to grip, but is not enclosed like some of the high end commercial vacuum cleaners. The cord hooks are made from metal making them durable and rigid. The back of the refuse tank has recessed slots where tools can be neatly stored out of the way while the unit is in use. The slots securely fasten the tools even when bumped or hit. The intake suction hose connects with the refuse tank near the top of the vacuum cleaner and is designed with a suction carburetor. Carburetors are not common on many vacuum cleaners currently sold, but are nice when vacuuming lightweight rugs and delicate upholstery. With this carburetor system the amount of suction can be adjusted so that fabrics won't rip and matting won't get sucked along when vacuuming.
The Koblenz U-800 comes standard with three vacuum tools and telescopic wand. The three standard tools are comprised of a crevice tool, upholstery tool and dust brush. The telescopic wand extends to three times its original length and is great for vacuuming high areas, baseboards, and corners. To use the onboard vacuum attachments, the suction hose pulls away from the base and attaches to the telescopic wand. Overall the user has about 9 feet of reach with this system making any vacuuming job a breeze. Utilization of the carburetor system with the upholstery tool makes cleaning items such as drapes and delicate fabrics an easy task.
The base of the unit is built to withstand scratching from rough surfaces such cement floors. The underside of the vacuum cleaner is covered with a protective metal plate that is easy to remove, exposing the brush roller, motor pulley and belt. To decrease the vacuum cleaners downtime the belt can easily be replaced in less than one minute. The U-800 contains a single ten amp motor with ample power for the vacuum system and the brush roller. The unit comes complete with a fifty foot bright yellow cord that breaks away from the unit. A heavy duty extension cord can be used to replace the OEM cord making repairs easy and affordable. The lower edges of the base are wrapped in rubber to prevent damage when vacuuming close to baseboards and maneuvering around obstacles.
The Koblenz unit is a great vacuum cleaner for the price point with only one minor dislike. The manufacturer could have better positioned the on and off switch, either on the handle or on the rear of the unit, instead of the top-front of the refuse tank. This unit was introduced by Koblenz line in December of 2008 and is sure to be a hit for all residential and commercial users in 2009.
